Quality Control Technician
About the role
Company Overview
At Skild AI, we are building the world's first general purpose robotic intelligence that is robust and adapts to unseen scenarios without failing. We believe massive scale through data-driven machine learning is the key to unlocking these capabilities for the widespread deployment of robots within society. Our team consists of individuals with varying levels of experience and backgrounds, from new graduates to domain experts. Relevant industry experience is important, but ultimately less so than your demonstrated abilities and attitude. We are looking for passionate individuals who are eager to explore uncharted waters and contribute to our innovative projects.
Position Overview
Join Skild AI’s manufacturing team to help ensure robots, accessories, and incoming materials meet design requirements and quality standards. In this hands-on role, you will perform in-process and final inspections, verify incoming material conformity, and complete visual inspections of returned robots and accessories. You will document findings, identify nonconforming products, and work with manufacturing and engineering to resolve quality issues.
Responsibilities
Inspect incoming components, materials, and subassemblies against engineering drawings, specifications, approved samples, and applicable inspection criteria to verify design conformity and quality.
Perform in-line and in-process inspections at designated assembly checkpoints. Verify workmanship, component placement, hardware installation, cable routing, connector seating, labeling, and other defined acceptance criteria.
Complete final inspections of manufactured robots and accessories before release. Verify required inspection and test records are complete and products meet documented acceptance criteria.
Perform visual receiving inspections of all incoming return material authorization (RMA) robots and accessories. Document physical condition, visible damage, missing components, identification labels, and other observed discrepancies.
Record RMA inspection findings and photographs, as appropriate, and communicate observations to repair personnel. Distinguish observed conditions from suspected causes requiring further evaluation.
Use appropriate measuring instruments, inspection tools, and visual inspection methods to check dimensions, fit, finish, and assembly quality. Verify equipment calibration status before use.
Identify, label, and segregate nonconforming material or products according to established procedures. Document discrepancies and escalate issues for authorized disposition.
Maintain accurate inspection records, checklists, and quality data, including part numbers, serial numbers, inspection results, and supporting evidence as required.
Communicate recurring defects and quality trends to manufacturing, engineering, and quality personnel. Support root-cause investigations, corrective actions, and improvements to inspection processes.
Coordinate inspections with production and receiving priorities while maintaining consistent acceptance standards. Follow safety, material handling, and 5S practices and perform other assigned quality duties.
Preferred Qualifications
At least 5 years of experience in quality control, quality inspection, or a similar role supporting electro-mechanical manufacturing.
Experience performing incoming, in-process, and final inspections of mechanical parts, electrical components, or assembled products.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, specifications, bills of materials, and inspection instructions.
Hands-on experience using calipers, micrometers, and other inspection or measuring equipment appropriate to the product.
Ability to evaluate electro-mechanical assembly workmanship, including hardware installation, PCBA placement, cable routing, connector engagement, and labeling.
Strong attention to detail and sound judgment when comparing inspection results with documented acceptance criteria.
Experience documenting defects, maintaining traceable inspection records, and handling nonconforming material through established procedures.
Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to describe defects objectively and work effectively with production, receiving, repair, and engineering teams.
Ability to organize inspection priorities, work independently within defined procedures, and escalate unclear requirements or quality concerns.
Comfort using Google Docs, Google Sheets, email, and electronic quality or production systems to record and communicate inspection results.
Additional Experience We Value
Experience inspecting robots, automated equipment, or similar complex electro-mechanical products.
Experience documenting the condition of RMA products and supporting repair or failure-analysis teams.
Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, sampling plans, and applicable workmanship standards.
Experience with ERP or product lifecycle management systems, such as Rootstock and Arena, and supporting corrective actions or continuous improvement.
Physical Requirements
The role involves regular sitting, standing, and walking in a manufacturing environment, as well as close visual inspection and hands-on use of inspection tools. Handling components and accessing inspection points on robots and accessories may require bending and reaching. Essential job functions may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
